Rajasthan
seemed to be highly suitable for the use of khadi,
especially woollen khadi. Wool was available in plenty, the
old techniques still in existence. Women usually worked on
the spinning wheel in their homes, while the weaver
communities were adept on the loom.
Khadi industries were first established in Gadra
city (now in Pakistan), and in Bikaner. Two types of
khadi are now prepared in Rajasthan, a coarse variety, and a
fine one. Coarse "weaving is used for the making of
blankets, lots and pattus in most regions, while
merino wool is used for making finer pattus, shawls and lois. |
