Cotton
is grown in all parts of Rajasthan with the exception of
the desert region in the north-west part of the state. The
farmer grew cotton and sold it to traders who, after the
process of carding and spinning, gave it further to women
for spinning into yarn on a labour charge basis. This yarn
was purchased by traders or by the weavers. If the merchant
gave the yarn to a weaver, he took back the woven fabric;
and if the weaver purchased the yarn, he would sell the
ready cloth to the merchant. For example, a mandi or
wholesale mart of the Sanganer and Bagru Chhipas
(printers) was a usual feature in Jaipur at its Ban and
Chhoti Chaupars where they were sold as finished
goods. |
